A big THANK YOU!

A big THANK YOU to all those of you who came along to see my artwork during the recent exhibitions in Wexford, and in the RDS last weekend. I was very happy with the two shows, and it was great to see so many familiar faces visiting!

So, where to next? For those of you in the West why not pop in to visit Perspectives 5, a group exhibition in the Ballina Arts Centre. This show runs from the 1st to the 23rd of December. It will be my third year participating in this annual show and there is always a vast array of talent on display. This is indeed a very exciting time for Ballina Arts Centre as the redevelopment work nears completion. We are all looking forward to the reopening of an exciting, modern arts venue for Ballina!

Autumn News...

After much planning and preparation, my Solo Exhibition in The Waterside Theatre in Derry was finally launched on the 3rd. Both the paintings and the venue looked very well on the night, with the exhibition getting off to a good start. It's running until the 14th of October, so still time for more sales!

Last Tuesday saw the highly successful launch of the SCOOP Foundation Art Exhibition. An amazing array of work was on display, which had been generously donated by various artists. Of course there is still time to view the artwork at the Ormond Wine Bar, before the auction on Sunday the 19th at 5pm.

I will be taking part in People's Art 2010, which is happening around St. Stephen's Green from the 24th to the 26th of September. So, if you're in town come along to say hello!

On Culture Night, the 24th of September, there is a new gallery space opening at the offices of Leahy Architects, Camden Quay in Cork City. Some of my work will be on display in a group exhibition entitled 'White Light', alongside the work of James Leahy, Margaret Kent and Helle Hellesner. The exhibition opens at 5pm on Culture Night.

The SCOOP Foundation's Art Auction & Exhibition 2010

On Tuesday the 14th of September 2010, the SCOOP Foundation will host their 2nd annual Art Auction & Exhibition in the hope of raising €35,000 in order to build a brand new, three floored, concrete built school in Cambodia that will not only create a place to educate up to 250 local Cambodian children, it will also become the centre for a community in an impoverished area outside Phnom Pehn.

So in order to try and raise the funds needed for a school they are gathering art from all around Ireland and the exhibition and subsequent auction (on Sunday the 19th of September) will be quite unique as it will blend together some of the most well known Irish artists, with the best new comers, street art artists, photographers and everything in between. The exhibition will launch on the 14th of September with a reception in the beautiful Ormond Wine Bar.

I look forward to exhibiting with the foundation, and hopefully helping them raise funds to support their ongoing work. One of my paintings, Dalkey I, will be auctioneed off on the 19th.

Art in the Open 2010

This August Bank Holiday weekend saw myself and more than one hundred other plein air painters flock to Wexford town for its third annual Plein Air painting festival. This year it was bigger and better then before. On Friday and Sunday enthusiastic painters were dotted around Wexford town, while on Staurday the painters invaded the picturesque town of Enniscorthy. The efforts of the weekend culminated in a most impressive exhibition in Greenacres gallery, which opened on Monday. There almost five hundred people gathered to admire and marvel at the standard and variety of work that was produced in the course of three short days. It was an amazing experience, and while I wasnt fortunate enough to win a prize, I did make an appearance in Tuesday's Irish Times! http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/features/2010/0803/1224276085928.html

Success in Lisdoonvarna...

The sun shone very brightly for the fourth annual Outdoor Landscape Painting Competition on Saturday the 22nd of May. I spent the day in Fanore Beach, painting in the blistering heat. Unfortunately for me I got rather carried away painting, and I did not apply enough suncream. Fortunately, my hard work paid off and both of my paintings won awards. I came first place overall, and first place in category. The sunburn was just about worth it!!

I have been very busy in the last few weeks working on my website. I am happy to announce that www.niamhslack.com was relaunched last week. All feedback welcome!

Meanwhile, preparations continue for my upcoming solo show in the Waterside Arts Centre in Derry. This show will open on the evening of September the 3rd and continue until the 14th of October.

And another date for your diaries...I am going to exhibit in Whites Hotel in Wexford, during the Wexford Opera Festival. The festival runs from the 16th to the 30th of October. I will be exhibting during the second weeek of the festival. You will be able to find me in the Walter Dene Suite in the hotel, from the 24th to the 30th of October.

So, lots to look forward to in the coming months!....and lots of paintings to complete...

Springtime News...

There is indeed much artistic activity to write about this Spring. So here goes...

I am very happy to inform you that some of my paintings are now hanging in the Green Gallery, on the top floor of St.Stephen's Green Shopping Centre. Paintings can be viewed/purchased during normal opening shopping hours at the gallery. The Green Gallery sells a broad range of contemporary art from both Irish and International artists. The Green Gallery is known for its variety in style, price range and excellence of quality. A comprehensive framing service is also available. Exhibiting artists include Graham Knuttel, Mark Baker, George Callaghan, Tom Cullen, Vincent Keeling, Alan Kenny, Jonathan Knuttel, Arthur K Madderson, John Morris, John Schwatschke, Norman Teeling, Niall O’Loughlin, William Mulhall, and many others.
Their website may be viewed at www.greengallery.ie

Very shortly I will be delivering a number of new paintings to the Sheep and Wool Centre in Leenane. This centre is run by the O'Toole family, and houses a museum, craft shop and restaurant. You can visit their website at www.sheepandwoolcentre.com

And looking a little ahead, I am very excited at the prospect of staging a solo show at the Waterside Theatre in Derry next September (www.watersidetheatre.com). More details of this show will follow...

May will see me participating once again in the annual Outdoor Painting Landscape Competition in Lisdoonvarna, which is run by Christine O' Neill at the Burren Painting Centre. This is a weekend I would strongly recommend to all landscape painters. Visit www.burrenpaintingcentre.com

Lastly, I am looking forward to working outdoors some more as the temperatures rise (albeit very slowly!). I have recently joined a number of art groups, Plein Eire and Plein Eire West (www.pleineire.ning.com). Hopefully this will mean I will have some more company on my paint outs! Last week saw me capturing some beautiful springtime colours in a favourite spot of mine, Mount Usher Gardens. These images will be posted to my website soon.

Welcome to my blog!

Hi all,
